Introduction
The following guidance will help you prepare to take your online test using our Online Proctored Service. Please give yourself plenty of time to read this guide. You will be taking a remotely proctored on-screen test that is set to the same standards as a classroom. During the test you will be monitored by a proctor. The test will be recorded. You will be expected to confirm your identity and have a room that is tidy, well-lit, and clear of papers or books to sit your test.
To take the test, you will need.
- A Laptop with Windows 10 & above
- Mac Book with Mac OS 10.11 and above
- A strong/stable internet connection with (a minimum of 5 Mbps Upload and Download speed)
- A microphone
- A quiet and well-lit room where you will not be disturbed.
- Photo ID – accepted IDs:
- Passport
- EEA National ID card
- UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
- UK Biometric Residence Card (BRC)
- Convention Travel Document
- Stateless person’s Travel Document
- Mobile device with a working camera and microphone to be used as the secondary camera device.
Here are the minimum system requirements for running a remote invigilation exam.

1a. How to download and install Google Chrome (For Test without TSB)
- Download and install Google Chrome on a Windows machine by following these steps:
- Download the installation file - here
- If prompted, click Run or Save
- If you chose Save, double-click the download to start installing.
- Start Chrome: -
- Windows 8 and 8.1: A welcome dialog appears –
- Windows 10: A Chrome window opens after everything is done.
Please set Google Chrome browser as your default browser. This will improve your exam experience.
- To set Google Chrome as your default browser you need to follow these steps:
- On your computer, click the Start menu
- Click Control panel
- Click Programs Default programs. Set your default programs
- On the left, select Google Chrome
- Click Set this program as default
- Click OK
1b. How to set up TSB(For test with TSB)
- Download the TSB by clicking on the download TSB link provided below
For Windows: Windows OS TSB download
For Mac: Mac OS TSB Download
- Install and launch TSB.
- Ensure you copy the "Take The Test" link given in the invitation email and keep the verification code handy (written down) before launching TSB.
- Copy the test link and launch Talview Secure Browser, then paste the test link in the blank tab inside TSB to get to the landing page of the test and type in the verification code to proceed.

Preparatory materials
Before the test
Before the test day please make sure you have:
- A suitable room for the test
- Download and Install TSB on the test device. The link will be available in the test invitation email.
- An appropriate ID card
- Make sure you have a stable internet connection (Minimum 5 Mbps)
- A charger near you in the test room
- Use a functional laptop computer with optimal performance.
Technical Setup:
- Test your computer's audio and video settings to ensure they are working correctly.
- Close all unnecessary applications and browser tabs
Test Environment:
- Choose a quiet and well-lit location where you will not be disturbed during the test.
- Clear your workspace of any materials not permitted by the test guidelines.
- Remove any potential distractions, such as smartwatches, headphones or other electronic devices not allowed during the test.
Identification and Authentication:
- Have a valid photo identification document ready. Any of the below mentioned IDs.
- Passport
- EEA National ID card
- UK Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
- UK Biometric Residence Card (BRC)
- Convention Travel Document
- Stateless person’s Travel Document
- Follow the instructions provided by the test proctor for the identification and authentication process.
- Ensure that your face is clearly visible on the webcam throughout the test.
Remember: you cannot change the test room during the test
2a. Preparing for your exam how to prepare the room for the test
The test room must be:
- Well-lit so the proctor can see you clearly
- Quiet
- Private – and you need to be sure you will be alone for the entire test
- Free from clutter and items that are relevant to the subject of the test(e.g. books, notes etc)
- Clean and clear – (no stickers, notes or writing on desk or computer and nothing on the floor around the desk)
- Free from personal belongings or documents containing information about yourself and family members(like a bank statement, prescriptions any other files and documentation, photographs, or anything that might reveal personal information about you that you would not want to be captured in the test recording)
- Free from unauthorized equipment like landline, MP3/4 players, smartwatches/wristwatches, second monitors and TVs.
- Ideally should have the table you will use to sit the test.
Remember: you cannot change the test room during the test.
Before your exam, you must complete the below steps.
Steps to complete before your exam
- Ensure you have your student ID card with a clear picture of you to use for the ID check. (Soft copies of ID card is not allowed)
- Ensure the computer you are using meets the technical requirements specified.
- Download and install the TSB on the computer you will use to take the exam. The link to download Safe Exam Browser will be provided in the test invitation email.
- Position your mobile device in landscape (on its side, not portrait position) so the camera shows a clear view of you, your workspace and the computer being used to take the exam.
- Test the internet in your work area to ensure you have good wi-fi or wired internet connection.
2b. Setting up a secondary camera for your exam
- Make sure you have good lighting (the light must not shine directly on the camera) and that the camera on your mobile device has a clear view of you and your desk.
- Your mobile device with a camera must be set up at the side of the work area in a Landscape position to provide a clear and unobstructed view of the whole scene including your desk, any permitted materials, your face, your hands, any screens used to access exam information and compose responses and any writing paper. It must display everything within reach.

- Close all other applications on your computer.
- Make sure your microphone and camera are working.
- Ensure your speaker is on so you can hear the proctor if they speak to you.
To perform the check, follow the on-screen instructions.
- You will be prompted to share your entire screen by clicking on the image showing your screen and then clicking the Share button.
- Now you are admitted to the test area by the proctor. All communication with the proctor will happen via the chat box. You will hear a ping sound when the proctor sends you a message via the chat. The proctor will be available for help.
- You can also request a call from the proctor by clicking on the green call icon and request a call from your proctor.
- Next, hold your ID in front of the web camera and click the Capture button. This photo of your ID will be used by your invigilator to verify your identity.
- Check your web camera - you will be asked to take a picture of your face.
- Check your microphone - you will be asked to record a short phrase. If the recording finishes quickly, it means that your microphone works well, and the sound quality is good.
- If the photo is not clear enough for the proctor to read, or if you use an unacceptable form of ID, the proctor will ask you via the chat to re-take the photo.
Tip: Moving your ID a few inches back from the camera will help the web camera to focus better on it
- Next, you need to record a 360 view of your test room. This is so the proctor can make sure you don’t have access to unauthorized materials and that there are no papers or notes accessible.
- You will need to be able to pick up and move your web camera around your room. Video must include your table, ceiling, floor, and areas under the table, and behind the monitor. Please do not rush when you record the 360 view of your test room.
- We recommend freeing the room from clutter ahead of the test. You will have one minute to record the video. You can retake it before submitting if you are not satisfied with it.
- If you have any technical difficulties during the pre-test checks, please contact support via chat. Look for this button on the screen.
Important note: Please be patient while the proctor verifies your ID and video of the test environment 360 view of your room.
*Sometimes verification can take more than 10 minutes. Please do not refresh or close the page.
- If the proctor is not satisfied with the quality of the video of your room, or identifies possible unauthorized materials, they will ask you to adjust your room and re-take the video via the chat box.
- The proctor will then verify your ID, do a final check of your test environment 360 view and will admit you to the proctoring session.
Note: The proctor will let you into the exam only once successful verification is done.
- When you are admitted to the exam room you are under the exam conditions:
- The exam session will be recorded.
Note: You may be asked to make adjustments to your environment to comply with exam conditions (i.e. adjust equipment/webcam/surroundings/lighting/closing door etc.).
Important Note: The test will start on the time and date as per the schedule. We recommend logging in 30 minutes before the start time, to complete your pre-test checks.
If you are more than 30 minutes late from the scheduled start time of your test, then the session will be marked as No-Show.
During the exam (For the test in TSB)
- Follow the instructions provided by the proctor.
- You will start the test.
- Please tell your proctor via the chat when you have completed the test.
- Please click on the End session button to close the invigilation.
- To ask the proctor a question during the exam, use the chat or call functionality.
If you finish early, inform the proctor via call or chat option so they can advise you on how to proceed.
During the exam (For tests without TSB)
To successfully complete a remote invigilated test, you need to complete the following steps:
- Launch google chrome browser and open your exam invitation email.
- Click on the attend
- You will be asked to agree to the “Terms & Conditions” and privacy policy and to give consent to Talview to capture your data.
- You will be asked to allow screen recording. After that you will be able to communicate with the proctor via chat. Click on turquoise button to start the chat. You will hear a ping sound when the proctor sends you a message via the chat. You can also request a call from the proctor with the ‘Yes, call me now’ button in the chat
Screen sharing Guide - How to share my screen?
- Go through the hardware check.
Important note: if you refresh your Google Chrome page any time during the pre-test checks or your test, you will be required to go through all pre-test check and to reconnect with your proctor.
To perform the check, follow the on-screen instructions. You will need to allow Google Chrome access to your microphone and web camera for this by clicking the ‘Allow’ button on the screen pop-up.
- You will be asked to add “Mobile phone as a secondary camera” – Make sure that your phone is fully charged and scan the QR code shown on the screen. Your phone will stream once your tap “proceed”. Kindly allow your phone to stream when prompted.
- Launch the camera application and scan the QR code
- After scanning the QR code, adhere to the on-screen instructions displayed on your mobile device by clicking on the next button.
- After clicking on 'next', you will receive a prompt to grant browser permission for your camera
- After the secondary camera video initiates streaming, the page seamlessly transitions to the subsequent screen, which displays the instructions automatically.
- Next, hold your ID in front of the web camera and click the Capture button. This photo of your ID will be used by your proctor to verify your identity. If the photo is not clear enough for the proctor to read, or if you use an unacceptable form of ID, the proctor will ask you via the chat to re-take the photo.

- If you cannot take a clear photo of your ID, you can upload a scanned copy. You may want to have a scanned copy available if you think your photo ID is not clear
- Check your web camera - you will be asked to take a picture of your face
- Check your microphone - you will be asked to record a short phrase. If the recording finishes quickly, it means that your microphone works well, and sound quality is good.
- Next you need to record a 360 view of your test room. This is so the proctor can make sure you don’t have access to unauthorised materials and that there are no papers or notes accessible. How do I download TSB?

No, The student has to arrange a private space/room where nobody else will be present.
Can I use my Chromebook/MAC/Ipad/Android tablet/smartphone or virtual machine.
The student must have either a Windows PC (version 8 or above) or a MAC OS (version 10.11 or above) in order to take the test.Other OS like Linux and chrome book will not support.
Can I use my headphones during the test?
Headphones are not allowed.
What are the acceptable proof of identification?
Student ID card. Alternative Photo ID can be used (Current Passport or Driver’s License)
Can I use a soft copy/xerox of the ID card?
Only original ID card (hard copy) is allowed
When I click on proceed, I receive an error message saying that my test has expired

I have a poor internet connection. Can I do anything to improve it?
We recommend disconnecting devices that can consume a lot of Internet traffic during the test and where possible ensuring you are the only person connected to the Wi-Fi at that time. Alternatively, you can also try connecting your laptop or computer via Ethernet.
What is the minimum internet speed required for the candidate?
